Jay Shin is a corporate commercial lawyer with significant experience representing clients on transactions involving Korean companies. Jay specializes in providing strategic legal advice to domestic and international entities involved in commercial transactions across a number of sectors, including real estate, banking, mining, energy, oil & gas, and technology.

Prior to joining Remedios & Company, Jay was a partner at Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP’s Vancouver office and the National Co-Chair of its Korea Practice Group. Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Jay was a partner with Yulchon LLC, a leading international law firm based in Seoul, Korea where Jay practised corporate and commercial law in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, cross-border investments and joint ventures. Prior to joining Yulchon in February of 2013, Jay was a partner at Borden Ladner Gervais, LLP’s Vancouver office and the National Leader of its Korea Practice Group.

In addition to maintaining his practice, between 2014 and 2015, Jay was an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources at the Faculty of Engineering at Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea where he taught International Mining Transactions to mid to senior level managers of Korean State-owned enterprises and multinational corporations. Previously, Jay was an Adjunct Professor with the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia from 2011 to 2013 and an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of International Area Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, Korea from 1999 to 2000 where he taught Public International Law, International Arbitration; Negotiations, and Business Law.
